The Technical Summary of the European MultiModX Project is Now Online

MultiModX aims to strengthen the integration between rail and air networks in Europe by developing decision-support tools for smoother, more sustainable, and more resilient long-distance mobility. The project builds on key European policy goals, including Flightpath 2050 and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy Technical.

The Technical Summary presents the three flagship solutions developed and tested during the project:

  • SOL399 – Performance Assessment: a methodology and multimodal modelling platform that evaluates network performance at both strategic and operational levels. It considers door-to-door travel time, reliability, and environmental impact, and introduces the first digital catalogue of multimodal performance indicators in Europe.
  • SOL400 – Schedule Design: a timetable optimisation solution designed to improve interoperability and the overall efficiency of the multimodal network.
  • SOL401 – Disruption Management: a disruption management tool that simulates various scenarios and anticipates operational responses to unexpected events.

These tools are designed to be transferable and adaptable to different national and regional contexts. They are intended for a wide range of stakeholders, including infrastructure managers, railway and airline operators, airports, public authorities, and researchers.

The project framework emphasises a passenger-centred approach, supported by a shared analytical foundation (including passenger archetypes and policy frameworks). This enables both operational planning and strategic decision-making, helping to bring multimodal mobility goals closer to reality while improving the passenger experience and enhancing the resilience of Europe’s transport system.
